Blume was founded on the idea that every student deserves an equitable and individualized education. This idea wasn't established in a boardroom but in the realities of the classroom, from the people who live in education every day. Educators and schools are doing everything they can, but individualized education requires precision and care, which current structures don't always support. Educators have direct instructional responsibilities- serving their students and spending countless hours on IEPs- writing, revising and interpreting. Administrators are under constant pressure with the service level demands of compliance, student caseload management, data analytics and the ongoing need for professional development for their teams.

Blume bridges the gap between what students need to thrive, the realistic bandwidth of today's educators, and the evolving knowledge base of the field, within a single, on-demand platform designed for practical use in real classrooms.

We began building Blume not because educators aren't trying hard enough, but because they are working impossibly hard within systems and processes that were never designed for the data demands of today's IEP process. Many of the tools districts rely on were built for compliance and reactive systems, not for the day-to-day realities of collecting continuous, high-quality student data.

Currently, most districts have no clear way to do it or are missing crucial components to ensure a structured, consistent process, leaving educators unsure whether they're collecting the "right" data. This leads to inconsistencies in how data is collected and what data is collected. When it's time to write progress reports or prepare for IEP meetings, educators frequently find themselves hunting across platforms, notebooks, and emails, or, in the worst cases, forced to estimate or reconstruct data that should have been captured systematically in the first place. This leaves administrators and families with an incomplete and sometimes inaccurate picture of student progress. Ultimately, students, educators, and districts face unnecessary risk because the underlying systems were not built with educator workflows or IEP data requirements in mind.

These realities formed the foundation of the problem we set out to solve.

Administrators need clear oversight and consistency, while educators need the tools to build objective and defensible student documentation. This creates strong and reliable documentation practices that protect students first by ensuring services are delivered as intended, and districts second by reducing avoidable risk.
• Efficiency Gap, Recording student data is often time-consuming, varies widely from classroom to classroom, and is frequently completed long after the actual student observation, forcing educators to rely on memory rather than real-time information. Educators can spend hours on documentation and it is often worked on outside of their work hours. Without standardized approaches, goals and progress notes vary widely in clarity, objectivity, and defensibility. When educators spend excessive time on documentation, they have less time to focus on direct instruction, progress monitoring, and early identification of student needs. Improving efficiency is not about cutting corners, it's about giving educators time back to do what matters most.

These three gaps collectively became the foundation for why Blume needed to be built.
